Legalities of Notation
Many dentists fail to realize that proper documentation of their practice can make the difference between conviction and absolution. Many cases of malpractice filed with courts have dentists who have not only failed to document procedures they are about to conduct(with consent forms for more complicated and costly procedures) ignoring the need for information they should give their patients.
In court, non-disclosure of procedures dome is always sure to provide enough evidence where notation charts are called into play. All consent forms(properly and timely accomplished of course), images and other supporting documents should be included with their charts so they can be retrieved easily should they be needed. In one case, the testimony of a client saying that the dentist did not inform him of any details of the treatment done that resulted in an infection was judged in favor of the client who won in no time.
